Precision part machining demands stringent requirements. How to guarantee micron-level accuracy and prevent mishaps?

2026-07-09 23:34:19

In sectors such as automation, medical devices, new energy and optical equipment, precision part machining largely determines the overall performance of finished machines. Many customers ask: the drawing tolerance is 0.005–0.01 mm. Why can some manufacturers not achieve this? How can stable, consistent and distortion-free machining be truly realized? The answer relies not on equipment alone, but on full-process control covering process planning, fixturing, stress relief and inspection.

The core of precision machining is not “being able to machine a part”, but “producing identical parts every time”. Starting from incoming materials, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, titanium alloy and engineering plastics all have vastly different properties. Cutting speed, feed rate, cutting tools and cooling methods must be matched accordingly. Thin-walled parts tend to deform, deep holes are prone to position deviation, slender shafts suffer from chatter, and curved surfaces risk overcutting — these are common pain points. Professional manufacturers minimize errors step by step through separated roughing and finishing, multiple re-clamping operations, stress relief treatment and low-speed finish machining.

Fixturing is even more critical. Uneven clamping force, excessive clamping pressure and inaccurate positioning all lead to dimensional drift. Proper use of jigs, collet chucks, vacuum adsorption, and 4-axis / 5-axis positioning enables one-step forming of complex structures. Meanwhile, ambient temperature in the machining workshop, machine tool warm-up and tool wear compensation all affect the final accuracy.

Inspection serves as the bottom line of precision machining. Precision manufacturing cannot be achieved without optical comparators, height gauges, surface roughness testers, micrometers and bore gauges. Every component must be inspected, recorded and traceable; non-conforming products will never be shipped.

Therefore, high-specification precision parts are not made by “luck”, but by a complete quality system. Choosing the right machining partner makes high precision achievable.
